About the University

The University of Sydney is the leading academic establishment in Australia, offering what it calls ‘Sydney Choice’: courses that range from Archaeology to Zoology and a flexible degree structure. With a superb location in one of the most bustling cities of the world, the University of Sydney is renowned for its vibrant, whirling student life. It is home to hundreds of clubs and societies, cafes, bars, bands, theatre productions, sports, three sporting complexes and to Australia’s oldest student newspaper, Honi Soit. Most notable is its array of alumni: former Prime Ministers John Howard, Gough Whitlam, William McMahon and Edmund Barton; former Governors-General Sir William Deane and Sir John Kerr; four of the seven current members of the High Court of Australia; and a vast number of leading figures in the business, industry, the arts and sporting fields.

About Sydney

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, situated on one of the world’s most magnificent harbours, Sydney’s skyline is dominated by iconic architecture. The world-famous Opera House is testament to the importance of performing arts in the region, and is home to both Opera Australia and the Sydney Symphony. Nearly 32 percent of Sydney’s residents are born overseas; many were attracted by the abundance of golden sand beaches, parks and sights such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The implications of this wide-ranging variety on the language, food, and cultural offerings are immense. Visitors often note the friendly welcome of Sydney’s residents as one of its best features, and students will receive a warm welcome.
